about

ZenBreaks 2023 Sample Pack is a collection of completely original, 100% royalty-free drum loops and one shots played and recorded live by Robin Lexow and Jasper Johannsen. It follows the concept of building a tool directly from producers for producers. The drums were recorded in aprofessional studio with a wooden live room through a Soundtracs CP6800 console into the DAW.

Contains:
Over 100 drum loops and 38 oneshots, including
- oneshots clean: 8 kicks, 13 snares, 3 tambourines, 10 closed hihats, 4 bells
- oneshots lofi: 7 kicks, 9 snares, 3 tambourines, 6 closed hihats, 2 open hihats, 6 bells
- loops: 35 x 95bpm, 39 x 85bpm, 37 x 75bpm, all breaks between 1 and 4 bars length
(4 different mixes for each break – see below)

The creators aimed to achieve a crisp and punchy 70's sound by using vintage recording equipment and micing techniques. All drum breaks in this pack are played and recorded live, enabling you to add original, dynamic content to your productions. Furthermore, various sound colors were included, representing different musical decades (e.g., MPC crisp or real tape saturation).

The drum recording was executed using a variety of 14 microphones. For a boomy, bass-heavy kick, classic microphones were used, such as the Beyer Dynamic M380 or the Electro Voice RE20. Contrary, for a subtle saturation inspired by the Chicago-based engineer Steve Albini, the Altec 175M20 tube mic was used on snare top. In addition, the creators applied four different stereo setups, such as the vintage AKG C414 ULS as Glynn Johns, the AKG C451 small diaphragm as XY Overheads, the Beyer Dynamic M160 & M130 ribbons for transient-rich M/S, and the soviet Octava 012 workhorses on stereo room.

Drumkit: Tama Starclassic 24“ Kick, Gretch 14“ Wallnut Snare, Sabian 14“ AAX Hihat

High quality stereo wave format (48khz, 24bit or 44.1khz, 16bit)
4 different mixes for each loop:
- clean
- LoFi
- LoFi re-recorded through Akai MPC2500 for MPC feel
- LoFi re-recorded through Fostex B16 tape recorder for oldschool feel
